Robert Malherbe

Capturing the moment

Robert loves to work directly from life, painting either landscape or the human form. His work is strongly influenced by great masters such as Constable, Manet and Cézanne. He paints with immediacy, capturing fleeting moments of nature and human gesture.

His technique expresses sensuality, using broadbrush strokes and a reductive approach to colour. Robert aims to present the essential essence of his subjects and the inherent relationships between subject, artist and viewer.

Robert was born in Mauritius and immigrated to Australia at the age of six. He lived and worked in London from 1989 to 1999, and first presented his paintings at the Chelsea Art Show in 1999. Since returning to Australia he has undertaken many solo exhibitions at the Tim Olsen Gallery in Sydney and the Jan Murphy Gallery in Brisbane, where his works are often on display.
